Network Architect/Planner

This client is the largest fixed wireless provider serving businesses in the United States. We deliver a comprehensive portfolio of high-bandwidth Internet access, point-to-point private line services and VoIP solutions over one of the industry’s most scalable last-mile networks.

 

Summary
The Network Architect/Planner is responsible for the network design and architecture; working with a team of network engineers; improving and maintaining network reliability; providing engineering support for the installation of new customers; meeting or exceeding performance criteria in customer service level agreements integrating networks from M&A transactions; assisting with developing annual budgets for network expansion/maintenance; maintaining regulatory compliance. Large scale and service provider network experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for defining network architecture and associated standards.
  • Manage network engineering integration and expansion through mergers and acquisitions.
  • Minimize service disruption and customer impact from routine network augmentation, preventative maintenance and enhancements.
  • Understand the key technical aspects of the broadband system.
  • Maintain the Cisco network environment and assist with the implementation of new solutions as needed.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and trends reports
  • This individual must have a strong working knowledge of Cisco products (26xx, 72xx VXR, 12xxx routers).
  • Design and implement WAN solutions.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of Network Infrastructure.
  • Ensure the infrastructure drawings and documentation are up-to-date
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products, circuits and services.
  • Experience with routing protocols such as, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
  • LAN protocols and transports such as TCP/IP, Gig-Ethernet, Fast-Ethernet, and Wireless
  • Experience with Cisco VoIP and Unified Communications (Call Manager and Cisco Unity)
  • Experience and support of WAN and MAN circuits such as MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM and Sonnet, DS1, DS3, OC3
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco IOS and CAT OS, and extensive knowledge of Point-to-Point concepts, entire suite for TCP/IP,OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS and BGP.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; or equivalent related degree or a combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in all phases of network engineering within the telecommunications service provider space.
  • 5+ years’ experience designing, evaluating and recommending networking solutions
  • In depth knowledge of telecom principals and terminology.
  • Experience in supporting mission-critical 24×7 telecom & network services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and in writing, as well as good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively while dealing with tactical issues.
  • Must be a team player, capable of functioning in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient computer skills.

    SCOPE

    The Systems Administrator II is accountable for installing, configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining all Intel based servers to ensure optimal operation of servers and installed applications. This position handles assignments of a more complex nature and provides guidance to others within the department.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

     

    Ensures optimal performance of all Intel based servers by proactively conducting ongoing performance monitoring and by tuning/adjusting as necessary.

     

    Ensure service performance meets or exceeds business expectations and is delivered in accordance with SLAs.

     

    Provides effective Network administration duties on a 24/7 basis, as needed, by researching/analyzing issues/requests to determine server/application related implications, effectively communicating with all impacted parties and by troubleshooting and resolving issues with a sense of urgency to minimize any system downtime.

     

    Created Knowledge Base articles of operational tasks to streamline support and empower first level support to resolve issues on a first call basis.

     

    Effectively maintains all Intel based servers by performing maintenance patching and application upgrades (including operating system and various applications) as needed.

     

    Ensures optimal server set-up by conducting effective new hardware installations, hardware replacements/upgrades and by performing operating system reconfigurations as needed.

     

    Ensures applications are effectively set-up on the server by installing the application and by conducting application availability testing.

     

    Creates optimal server infrastructure in support of new applications by researching and recommending hardware/software technologies in support of application requirements.

     

    Ensures server security integrity by reviewing and implementing server policies within the system.

     

    Assists in developing the skills of the Server Administrator I by providing guidance and mentoring.

     

    Contribute to delivery of Infrastructure initiatives, i.e. server consolidations, centralization and virtualization.

     

    Contribute to new projects to ensure a smooth transition into the live environment, e.g. integration of acquired companies, new site installations, introduction of new applications or development of Infrastructure services.

     

     

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

     

    High School Diploma or GED required.   A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science plus three to five years of Systems Administration experience; or equivalent combination of education or experience preferred. Datacenter environment server hardware and software installation/ support experience required.

     

    SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS – for both positions

    · In-depth knowledge of Windows Server Administration to include Active Directory, Exchange, SQL and IIS technologies.
    · MCSA/ MCSE 2003 and newer certification desired.

        EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

        REQUIREMENTS

         

        • Extensive knowledge of network hubs, routers, switches, network infrastructure design, protocol and network analyzers, wiring standards, and the TCP/IP protocol.
        • The position requires a mature and responsible individual with strong initiative, analytical skills and judgment to independently handle assignments.
        • Strong knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and Pix / ASA firewalls, VPN and VOIP. Cisco Nexus administration required.
        • Working knowledge of WANs (T1’s, T3’s, MPLS and point-to-point)
        • Strong routing skills especially competent on EIGRP and BGP routing protocols.
        • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate certification (CCDA) preferred. ITIL practice or certification(s) heavily preferred.

        • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

          ·    JavaScript and related web technologies.

          ·    Software architecting experience. Show us some examples of things you’ve built!

          ·    Highly iterative, agile and/or rational development. You’re going to be interacting with the end users here, no “heads down” programming!

          ·    A solid history of managing teams.

          ·    You’ve got to be good at diagramming and documentation. If you can’t draw a simple ERD, this isn’t the place for you.

            Duties

            Qualifications

Experience with SQL and database querying tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products. Experience with web analytics tools. Experience with Tableau, PowerPivot, SQL Server Reporting Services desired. Experience in the direct sales industry is a plus.

             

            This position will entail frequent contact with representatives of multiple business functions, so strong communication skills are a must. Must be a self-motivated person with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

             

             

            The position is located in Marshall, Texas.

              IT Hiring Remains Strong Despite Economic Fears

              IT hiring has been on the rise since the start of 2011, and IT staffing executives expect that growth to continue through the rest of the year, despite recent bad economic news.

              CIO — IT professionals looking for new jobs need not fear that the recent spate of bad economic news will hamper their job searches. IT staffing industry executives agree that IT hiring in the U.S. will remain robust through the end of the year, bucking renewed fears of a double dip recession recently brought on by stock market corrections, the ongoing debt crisis in Europe and the U.S., and Standard &Poor’s downgrade of America’s credit rating.

              "Despite the economic woes we’ve been hearing about, I haven’t on the ground seen any change in demand [for IT workers]," says Shane Bernstein, managing director of IT staffing firm Q. "In fact, demand keeps increasing. Every week I hear [from our clients], ‘We have a lot more positions coming down the pipeline that we need to fill.’"

              Q works with small, midsize and large companies in technology and other industries. "No one has put budgets on hold. No one has put hiring freezes on," adds Bernstein. "The economy hasn’t affected us yet. This is not to say that it won’t, but I haven’t seen it."

              Andrew Speer, senior vice president of technology services for IT staffing firm Technisource, and Jeff Freeland, CEO of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Astreya, are also bullish about the IT job market through the end of the year. Speer says requests for temporary workers, temp-to-perm hires and permanent placements are all on the rise at Technisource. Consequently, he adds, IT workers are in a "wonderful" position to land new jobs.

              Astreya’s staffing business, which specializes in placing IT infrastructure workers (systems administrators, network engineers and system and network architects), is also growing–by 27 percent over the last year, says Freeland.

              Work as part of the CNC (Configurable Network Computing) Administrator team responsible for the daily technical support of the JD Edwards (JDE) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.  As Sr. CNC Administrator, you will serve as technical resource on JDE related projects, which includes Releases, Tools, Applications, and Platform Upgrades.

              This position will also maintain the necessary controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the environments and the software levels, as well as implementing security within JDE. This individual must maintain a close working relationship with the Tech Services Database and Application Services Manager, Linux Systems Administrator, Oracle Database Administrator and JDE Development Manager in the coordination of overlapping responsibilities.

              Requirements:                

              ·         Experience serving as a technical lead for JDE application and tools upgrades, as well as platform upgrades.

              ·         Proficient in utilizing the JDE EnterpriseOne Technical Foundation tools and CNC functionality.

              ·         Extensive knowledge in administering and managing Security and Solution Explorer menus.

              ·         Experience with installation, setup, configuration, package builds and deployments.

              ·         Experience in JDE EnterpriseOne Application and Tools Release upgrades.

              ·         Excellent technical knowledge and experience in server administration, networks, workstations, JDE EnterpriseOne application, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

              ·         Solid working experience on Unix/Linux Servers, Oracle database, Websphere and Weblogic

              ·         College degree in computer related field or equivalent experience

              ·         Minimum 7 years’ experience in CNC administration

              ·         Has advanced knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.

              ·         Relies on experience and personal knowledge to perform the functions of the job.

              ·         Works well under direct supervision of supervisor.

              ·         Works well independently, as well as within a team environment.
