Contract Network Engineer Opportunity with Great Company in Fort Worth, TX

If this opportunity is not a good match for your skills or you are not available but know someone who is, please forward this link to them as we pay referral fees for anyone you refer that we place with a client.

Contract Network Engineer Opportunity with Great Company in Fort Worth, TX

Heavy Travel Involved – up to 75% based out of Fort Worth

Must have CCNP and/or CCSP

Duties will require mid-level skill set CCNP/CCSP (Network/Security).

The client prefers only people with both skill sets.  However, there will are 4 positions and 2 teams of 2, so strong skills in either might work in a team situation.

Experience in both is acceptable in lieu of certifications.

Wireless skill set would be a plus.

The general day-to-day tasks would be as follows:

·         Upgrading IOS on routers and switches.

·         Pre-configuration and Installation of a client-provided ‘gold standard’ (Client’s approved feature set), along with the generic configuration.

·         Drop shipping the pre-configured hardware to the remote offices and then travel to the locations in order to perform an R&R (remove and replace) the old equipment with the new.

·         This may also include climbing on a roof to swap out wireless antennas or replacing wireless access-points in ceilings.

·         Candidates should have good mechanical skills, as well as attention to detail.

The client says the work schedule is 4 days (10 hours days) on and 3 days off.

Also 3 weeks in the field and then 1 week back in Ft. Worth offices prepping the next remote equipment.

12-14 month commitment. Candidates must contract for the entire length of the project, no exceptions.

Candidates must also be local to the Ft Worth area in order to car-pool to the remote locations.

Client’s CCIE’s will provide the brain work, however, the candidates should have some ability to perform independent thought, (problem solving skills) for dealing with un-foreseen problems.

Work in the remote locations may be ‘less than ideal’ at times.

It may be “hot and dirty”, and the hotel accommodations at times will be sub-par.  Some of these places only have a run-down motel, or it may mean staying in a trailer at the drill site.

Some locations where work is to be completed that may have nothing more than gas and oil platforms in the middle of “No-Wheresville”.

Need candidates that don’t mind getting their hands dirty, but can still exhibit professionalism while representing the client.

If you have this experience, feel you are a fit for this position, and are interested, please answer the questions below:

1) Do you have an updated Word copy of your resume?

2) What is your availability to start?

3) Are you open to a contract position?

4) Are you open to travel up 75% of the time and a 4 day work week (10 hours/day)?

5) What is your current salary or pay rate?

6) Are you currently eligible to work for any employer in the US?

7) When is the best time to contact you and what # can you be reached at for this opportunity?

We pay for referrals, so if this opportunity is not a good match for your skills or you are not available but know someone who is, please forward this link to them.

Demand for finance sector IT staff falls despite recruitment surge

The demand for finance sector IT staff has fallen 6% in the fourth quarter of 2010, despite industry recruitment levels increasing 21% compared to a year ago.

According to a Computer Weekly report from Salary Services Limited (SSL) and JobsAdWatch.co.uk, the finance sector is the only private sector to see recruitment levels fall in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter. All other sectors experienced an increase in demand.

The number of jobs advertised for software houses and consultancies increased by 8%.

George Molyneaux, research director at SSL, said, "This growth may well be at the expense of jobs in finance as they transfer operations and development to outsourcing companies."

Positive bounce in IT jobs market – report

The number of IT job appointments jumped significantly last month, according to a major survey.

The number of IT job appointments jumped significantly last month, according to a major survey.

The monthly Report on Jobs for January, from KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) showed that demand for permanent IT and computing workers had increased the most out of all the industries, compared to the previous month.

Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG, said: The latest figures are encouraging. Employers across all sectors have been expanding their workforce in January, with no real pressure building on wage inflation.

Importantly, there was a real bounce from the previous month’s figures for blue collar, engineering and IT-related jobs.

But despite the uplift, Brown was cautious, believing that impending public sector job cuts, VAT rises and a slow economic growth were all factors contributing to a volatile UK jobs market over the next few months.

It is too early to speculate whether these are the signs of a private sector-led recovery, he warned.

IT Resumes: Think Twice About the Advice You’ve Been Given

A recruiting manager with an IT staffing firm warns IT professionals to use the resume advice they get from the local employment office, outplacement firms and professional resume writers at their own risk.

CIO — Recruiters, professional resume writers and other career experts give out tons of advice on how best to write a resume that will stand out from the competition. Their intentions are noble—they want to help people land jobs—but the problem with their advice is that it doesn’t always apply to IT professionals and the nature of the work they do, says Shana Westerman, a recruiting manager with IT staffing firm Sapphire Technologies.

“People go to the unemployment office or they go to outplacement resume writers who don’t give advice that is applicable to the IT field,” she says.

Westerman notes that IT resumes are different from resumes for professionals in other fields because IT workers have to capture a range of skills—both technical and functional—on their resumes. Because technology changes so rapidly and because so much IT work is project-based and involves “so many moving parts,” generic resume writing advice can do a great disservice to IT professionals, says Westerman.

Westerman sees first-hand how generic resume writing tips play out on IT professionals’ resumes. She screens, on average, 300 resumes per day searching for IT workers to place with her clients, who are IT line managers and executives at large and midsize companies looking for contract and permanent employees. Westerman says many of the IT resumes she gets from job seekers are too short on specifics for her and her clients’ needs. When she finds a candidate whom she thinks would be a good match for a client, she says she often has to ask the candidate to beef up his resume with more information about his skills and experience.

“You’re not going to meet with a [hiring] manager if your resume doesn’t get you the meeting. Your resume is the one and only tool that gets you an interview,” says Westerman.

She adds that even when she advocates for a particular candidate, the client still wants to see on the candidate’s resume all of the capabilities she’s mentioned. “If they don’t see what I say on the candidate’s resume, their interest will wane,” Westerman notes.

Here, she shares the generic resume advice IT professionals should run from.

Job Tips – Social Networking Ever More Critical to Job Search Success

Job seekers with robust LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter profiles have better access to job opportunities at growing companies than candidates whose job searches don’t include active social networking profiles, according to the results of a new survey.

CIOJobvite, a maker of recruiting software, released the results of its third-annual social recruiting survey this morning, and the findings underscore the many reasons job seekers need to incorporate online social networking into their job searches.

Jobvite asked 825 HR and recruiting professionals about the extent to which they use social networking websites in their recruiting process to find and vet candidates for jobs. Their answers indicate that they view social networks as a viable channel for sourcing high-quality candidates and that they plan to increase their use of social networking websites in their recruiting efforts this year. (Only about 3 percent of survey respondents were Jobvite customers.)

At some companies, in fact, social recruiting is beginning to eclipse traditional channels for sourcing candidates, such as job boards and third-party recruiters and search firms.

If you’re looking for a job and not active on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter (the three social networking websites most popular with employers, according to the survey), here are four reasons to join these sites and actively manage your profiles.
