Job Tips and Job News – Texas added 32,500 jobs in April

Keeping its status as one of the states least impacted by the recession, Texas added 32,500 jobs in the month of April, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday.

Since the beginning of 2010, the Lone Star State has produced 79,000 jobs, TWC said. Overall, Texas has 11.2 million employed workers after the first five months of the new year.

However, even with new jobs in the pipeline, the state’s unemployment rate grew a percentage point in April, reaching 8.3 percent, compared to 8.2 percent in March.

However, the state still trends below the national unemployment rate of 9.9 percent.

Systems engineers, from engineering students to experienced professionals, are expected to have strong salaries and real opportunities for career growth. They also have the weight of academia and major technology vendor IBM behind them.

You may not have noticed, but systems engineering is a promising career choice. In 2009, it was rated No. 1 out of the Top 50 careers in terms of salary and growth prospects over the next 10 years by CNNMoney.com and Payscale.com.

Right now in May 2010, the average wage for a systems engineer is just under $90,000, according to data compiled by Indeed.com. While average salaries for the field are down a bit from where they had been, there is little shortage of jobs in the field.

Why is that? Well, probably because of the complexity and demands of the job. The main focus of systems engineering is understanding compatibility and offering agnostic views of technology while being able to design high-performing, yet efficient systems across most (if not all) technology layers. Plus, systems engineers have to have a deep understanding of best-of-breed technologies while staying up-to-date on emerging technology trends.

Senior JDE Business Analyst

Responsibilities

Participate in the implementation of new clients on to our JDE platform by analyzing client requirements, designing, testing and implementing solutions to support the client on-boarding to client company’s JDE platform. Functions as a liaison between the Client Accounting group and the JDE development team. Manage all aspects of one or more multiple small to large client implementations.

· Responsibilities will also include the following:

· Develop and coordinate technical requirements for data transmissions between J.D. Edwards and client’s accounting system

· Analyze business process and complex client requirements for process refinement or to determine system configuration

· Develop technical specifications for client data migration from their existing system to the client company’s JDE platform and reporting requirements

· Work closely with development and user teams to test proposed system configuration and customizations

· Coordinate, support and help resolve J.D. Edwards help desk cases including: General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Job Cost, Reporting, Purchase Order, and system interfaces

· Develop relationships with key users in Global Corporate Services group Identify potential solutions to meet business requirements

Qualifications

· Bachelors Degree

· 10 years excellent working knowledge of J.D. Edwards E1 (v.8.12)

· 7 years experience in a business analyst role

· Knowledge of Accounting principals

· Real Estate knowledge a plus

· Implementation experience

· Ability to manage multiple projects at one time

· Knowledge of integration processes and their technical requirements

· Experience with documenting client requirements

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to explain complex technical information clearly to end users

· Must be able to perform duties without close supervision

· Team-oriented with strong interpersonal communications skills

· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

· Knowledge of SQL

· AS/400 knowledge a plus

Responsibilities will include analysis of user requests to determine feasibility and technical design of delivered specifications, developing project plans, workload estimates and schedules for assigned projects, performing complex systems analysis/design work for new or modified systems being developed by client IT staff and or consultant delivered systems, as well as programming solutions, often complex, using JDE technologies .

Responsibilities:

As a Sr. JDE Developer, you will:

Provide input and advice regarding the enhancements possible in JDE using the various tools such as JDE Design Aid, Object Management Workbench, Debugger, XML publisher,

Build positive end user relationships by developing an understanding of their business and project needs, supporting both existing users and new users of the system

Anticipate problems and resolve them in order to ensure that the daily business operations are maintained

Provide break-fix analysis and support for resolving complex user how to questions,

work with project teams and the Oracle vendor to troubleshoot functional application issues

Participate in the development of new processes and procedures for the various business units

Stay current on latest JDE technology and tools and proactively suggest system improvements

This includes the administering of the user environment, security, backups and software/object change management, JDE EnterpriseOne Java Web Server, HTML Server, Portal installation and Support (Websphere), JDE Business Services installation and support, JDE EnterpriseOne ESU installs (Electronic Software updates), JDE EnterpriseOne Tools Release, JDE EnterpriseOne Software Update Installations, Object Management (OMW) Setup, Configuration & Maintenance, Development Support (EnterpriseOne Fat Client installs and support), performance monitoring, capacity planning, backup and recovery planning and Disaster Recovery (DR) execution. This position will maintain the necessary controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the environments and the software levels. This individual must maintain a close working relationship with the Tech Services Database and Application Services Manager, Unix Systems Administrator, Oracle Database Administrator and JDE Development Manager in the coordination of overlapping responsibilities.

Requirements:

· Proficient in utilizing the JDE EnterpriseOne Technical Foundation tools and CNC functionality.

· Experience with installation, setup, configuration, package builds and deployments.

· Experience in JDE EnterpriseOne Application and Tools Release upgrades.

· Excellent technical knowledge and experience in server administration, networks, workstations, JDE EnterpriseOne application, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

Contract Browser Expert Opportunity in Grapevine, TX

Our client is looking for a contract resource to provide a proof of concept regarding a “locked down” IE browser, preferably IE 8, to reside on their store’s POS.
The browser should have only the capability to utilize client’s intranet, a Kronos Time and Attendance system, and an I-9 verification web site.
The browser should be able to hot any other sites other than those white listed.
The browser should not allow access to the local operating system or data on the local drives.
Client’s stores will have a combination of Win 2000 and XP for OS.

This individual should be well versed with MS API exposure and the abilities to lock down an IE browser to allow access to only authorized sites.
Client will setup a lab environment and the expectation is this individual provides a direction, proof of concept for our new browser reviewed by our architects, and solution document.

If needed and qualified, the candidate may be asked to assist through development and implementation in September 2010.

Client will have resources ready to assist with questions on the new Kronos and I-9 applications.

As an Executive Recruiter and Certified Professional Resume Writer / Executive Resume Writer, the majority of resumes that I review have serious flaws which often demonstrate poor communication skills, as well as the lack of attention to detail. In today’s highly competitive job market even a simple typo is enough to disqualify a candidate. A poorly worded sentence may give the HR Manager a momentary chuckle but since your resume is supposed to be an example of your best work, they are unlikely to forgive the mistake.

The ability to write well and communicate their value does not come easily to the majority of job seekers. Does this mean that the job seeker is unqualified and unable to do an outstanding job in the position? Absolutely not! A smart recruiter recognizes this and will often refer a potential candidate to a professional resume writer for assistance.
