Social Media Can Get You HIRED

Can social media help you get hired faster? YES, if you use it the right way.

Laura Gainor did. In March, Laura Gainor saw a job posting on Twitter for a position at Comet Branding in Milwaukee, WI. Based on the ad, Gainor launched a social media campaign, which landed her the gig in less than 30 days.

Recruiter Todd Nilson (Twitter Handle: @talentline411) regularly posts job openings on Twitter. When asked if it works, he said (via Twitter), “So far so good. I get some kind people RTing [retweeting] me. Slightly better luck from LinkedIn updates, though.”

Probably because Nilson has an extensive LinkedIn network. As do I. Because my connections are connections I know personally, I am very comfortable in referring them to others. However, I’ve got to be asked in the right way.

Dallas IT News – Security expert Bruce Schneier says at Dallas cybsecurity conference that data is the pollution of the Information Age

During a panel discussion at the Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit in Dallas yesterday afternoon that otherwise was as dry as a highway in the Sahara, security guru Bruce Schneier made a provocative argument.

He contended that just as pollution was the unfortunate byproduct of the Industrial Revolution, data is the waste product of the digital revolution.

And just like pollution, all the data we generate during our lives never degrades.

He noted that almost every transaction and interaction now generates data.

Job Tips and Job News – 10 Jobs That Pay Beginners Well

Not all incomes are equal. A surgeon, a retail clerk and a high school teacher don’t earn the same amount. Even within each occupation, salaries vary based on experience, training and location.

One expectation that many people have is that workers new to the professional world won’t make much money. Consider the stereotype that new college graduates have to move back in with their parents because they can’t afford to support themselves. The stereotype isn’t entirely unfounded. Walk into the apartments of most 20-somethings and you’ll see bare walls and furniture that was probably passed down from someone else. Tight budgets are just a part of starting your professional life.

As with all things, there are exceptions. Not every new worker is trying to earn enough to pay the bills. Some fresh-faced workers earn more than most Americans ever will.

1) Cost – The cost of postage keeps rising, and multiply that cost by the number of Cover Letters and Resumes you send out – it really adds up. An email with a formal introduction, and an attached word document, PDF, or link costs nothing each time you send since it’s already included in internet fees that you wouldn’t dare go without. Plus think of how many copies you’d have to make, which adds up at Kinkos or Pro-Copy.

Job Tips and Job News – Dressing For Success For the Job Interview

Dressing For Success For the Job Interview

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

Your application and resume pleased the prospective employer and he has asked you to come in for an interview. You are confident that the interview will be a success except for one concern. Dressing formally can give the impression of being rigid and uncomfortable if it is not what you are used to wearing. Dressing too casually can give the impression of laziness and that you really do not want the job.
