Job News – Dallas Business Journal – Jobs report optimistic, but falls short

The United States had 3.1 million job openings on the last business day of April 2010, up about 34.8 percent from July of 2009 when job openings hit a trough, the U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday.

The labor department’s latest report indicates that in July of 2009, the U.S. hit a low point with only 2.3 million job openings. Since then, the workforce has added 740,000 more jobs.

However, the job hire rate and separation rates have remained relatively steady at 3.3 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, the report said.
